Stripping in the seams of the plywood with Kemper. Also, wrapped up the face of the step with kemper. This product is perfect for applications like this. There are no seams. It is completely monolithic once installed. This job posed a challenge because it was under a tent in the winter time. We had to work around all of the staging legs. Priming the surface, letting it dry, then putting the membrane on, letting that dry, then moving the staging over and repeating! It was technical to say the least.

Another picture of the water proofing membrane used to reinforce the joints of the plywood. The plywood has a primer on it. The Liquid Kemper is applied to the joints with fabric embedded in it. Then another layer of liquid kemper is applied on top of that.
This is a good picture showing the fleece fabric being rolled out with the final layer of liquid kemper applied to it.
This shows a typical corner with the fleece being precut to accept the kemper liquid resin. The plywood is primed.

My experience with kemper I see the following benefit over traditional EPDM rubber roofing.

  • 25 Year Warranty which includes removing rooftop decking or green roof materials. For a residential application with a rooftop deck or green roof you would be lucky to get a 5 year warranty with EPDM.
  • There are no seams
  • The material self terminates so there is no fasteners or adhesives needed.
  • Should be used in the areas where a leak can’t be afforded. Any deck over living space, green roof, patio, terrace, even on highend homes with flat roofing who don’t want to have to service their roof and want to get it done once without having to think about it down the road.
